Position Summary
Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner of federal health agencies. We are exploring the addition of an experienced Data Scientist to support clinical research across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This role transforms complex clinical and research data into actionable insights that drive patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and evidence-based decision-making. The Data Scientist ensures data quality, regulatory compliance, and statistical rigor while collaborating with researchers, clinicians, and regulatory stakeholders to support the success and integrity of clinical trials and research studies. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Statistical Metric Development & Oversight
  • Serve as a statistical lead across multiple biomedical research initiatives
  • Design and oversee healthcare performance measures with clear clinical and operational impact
  • Partner with clinicians, analysts, and data owners to ensure data integrity, validity, and alignment
  • Define statistical significance thresholds to support evidence-based decision-making
Study Design & Biostatistical Consultant
  • Collaborate with principal investigators to design rigorous clinical and biomedical studies
  • Develop and execute Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs) aligned with regulatory and scientific standards
  • Support study protocols with sample size calculations, randomization strategies, and power analyses
  • Ensure compliance with ICH-GCP, FDA, and EMA guidelines throughout the data lifecycle
Data Management & Analysis
  • Manage and analyze large, complex datasets spanning clinical, genomic, and laboratory domains
  • Apply advanced statistical methods, including regression models, survival analysis, mixed-effects, longitudinal, and Bayesian approaches
  • Conduct simulations and novel modeling to address complex research questions
Benchmarking & Performance Evaluations
  • Leverage industry standards (CMS, NCQA, HEDIS, Joint Commission) to inform target setting
  • Perform comparative and population health analyses across peer organizations
Biostatistical Analysis & Study Design
  • Apply biostatistical methods to analyze health data
  • Design and execute analytics studies using statistical analysis techniques
  • Evaluate causality, confounding factors, and data limitations in clinical datasets
  • Provide methodological support for research, quality improvement, and program evaluation initiatives
Reporting & Visualization
  • Develop executive-ready dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Python
  • Translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Build reproducible, automated, and version-controlled analytic workflows
Data Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, data privacy, and institutional governance standards
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support transparency and reproducibility
Scientific Communication & Compliance
  • Author and contributor to manuscripts, technical reports, and conference presentations
  • Clearly interpret statistical results for investigators with varying levels of quantitative expertise
Strategic & Ad Hoc Analytics
  • Deliver rapid-cycle analyses supporting population health, patient safety, and strategic priorities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Three (3) + years of experience in healthcare analytics, with demonstrated proficiency in statistical modeling and data interpretation
  • Deep familiarity with healthcare data types (e.g., claims, EMR, registries, surveys); VHA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) knowledge preferred
  • Strong knowledge of biostatistical techniques, including hypothesis testing, mixed models, and longitudinal analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, R, SAS, Python, SQL, and data visualization tools
  • Ability to communicate with both clinical and technical teams, translating numbers into narratives
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience building semantic data models in Power BI and Analysis Services Tabular
  • Experience utilizing RedCap in clinical data collection and management
  • Proficiency with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create custom measures, KPIs, and dynamic reporting
  • Ability to translate business requirements into intuitive data structures and reusable logic
