Position Summary
Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner of federal health agencies. We are seeking a mission-driven Data Scientist with expertise in biostatistics and healthcare analytics to advance quality measurement and performance monitoring within the clinical setting. This role will be instrumental in transforming data into actionable insights that enhance patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and evidence-based decision-making across the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Metric Development & Oversight
  • Identify and design relevant healthcare performance measures.
  • Lead multidisciplinary metric workgroups involving clinicians, analysts, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with data owners to confirm data integrity, validity, and definitions.
  • Establish statistical significance thresholds to interpret clinical and operational impact.

Target Setting & Benchmarking 

  • Utilize healthcare industry standards (e.g., CMS, NCQA, HEDIS, Joint Commission) to inform goal-setting. 
  • Perform comparative analysis across peer organizations and population health metrics. 

Biostatistical Analysis & Study Design 

  • Apply biostatistical methods to analyze health data. 
  • Design and execute analytic studies using statistical analysis techniques. 
  • Evaluate causality, confounding factors, and data limitations in clinical datasets. 
  • Provide methodological support for research, quality improvement, and program evaluation initiatives. 

Reporting & Visualization 

  • Develop dashboards and data visualizations using platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Python libraries. 
  • Translate complex statistical findings into clear recommendations for non-technical audiences.  
  • Create executive summaries and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. 

Data Governance & Compliance 

  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, data privacy, and institutional policies. 
  • Maintain documentation of analytic workflows and metadata for reproducibility. 

Ad Hoc Analytics & Strategic Support 

  • Deliver rapid-cycle analyses in support of population health initiatives and patient safety priorities, when applicable. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline 
  • Three (3) + years of experience in healthcare analytics, with demonstrated proficiency in statistical modeling and data interpretation. 
  • Deep familiarity with healthcare data types (e.g., claims, EMR, registries, surveys); VHA Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) knowledge preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of biostatistical techniques, including hypothesis testing, mixed models, and longitudinal analysis. 
  • Proficient in R, SAS, Python, SQL, and data visualization tools 
  • Ability to communicate with both clinical and technical teams, translating numbers into narratives. 
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship. 
  • Ability to obtain public trust. 
Preferred Qualification
  • Experience building semantic data models in Power BI and Analysis Services Tabular. 
  • Proficiency with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create custom measures, KPIs, and dynamic reporting. 
  • Ability to translate business requirements into intuitive data structures and reusable logic.
