Junior Business Intelligence Engineer
Prometheus Federal Services (PFS) is a trusted partner of federal health agencies. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to support the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in delivering high-quality data solutions. This role will assist in developing reports, maintaining data models, and supporting operational BI tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Data Connections & Query Development
- Assist in maintaining secure connections to enterprise data sources such as Pyramid Analytics and the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW).
- Support the development and refinement of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) measures, MDX (Multidimensional Expressions) scripts, and T-SQL (Transact-SQL) queries to ensure data accuracy and performance.
Data Modeling & Enhancement
- Contribute to the maintenance of Power BI tabular models by updating relationships, hierarchies, and calculated columns.
- Collaborate with senior team members to implement enhancements that support evolving reporting needs.
Report & Dashboard Development
- Build and update interactive dashboards and paginated reports based on provided wireframes and specifications.
- Implement Power BI features such as slicers, bookmarks, and drill-through to improve the user experience.
Operational Support & Performance Management
- Monitor scheduled data refreshes and assist in resolving failures.
- Learn and apply basic performance optimization techniques under supervision.
Change Control & Release Management
- Document minor changes and enhancements in alignment with VHA’s change control processes.
- Help prepare release notes and maintain support logs for BI assets.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
- Assist in creating and updating documentation such as:
- Connection guides
- Data dictionaries
- Technical runbooks
- Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and workshops to support VHA stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a relevant discipline/field of study
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Power BI and foundational knowledge of DAX, MDX, and T-SQL.
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts and BI development best practices.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship
- Ability to obtain public trust
Preferred Qualification
- Experience working with healthcare data or within federal agencies (especially VHA).
- Exposure to Pyramid Analytics and CDW environments.
- Understanding of performance tuning and data governance principles.
