Prometheus Federal Services (PFS), a trusted partner to federal health and social services agencies, has an opening for a full-time Section 508 Compliance Specialist (Compliance Specialist) supporting contracts across the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Compliance Specialist will ensure all client deliverables are 508 compliant, improving the accessibility of information by Veteran’s, their caregivers, families, and employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support our clients by providing Section 508 compliance, including but not limited to, digital file remediation, remediation PDF files, spreadsheets and graphics.
- Conduct accessibility auditing and testing for website, platforms and portals.
- Monitor and stay up to date with latest industry trends, advancements in technology, and evolution of federal accessibility rules, regulations, and guidance.
- Collaborate with delivery teams to review and ensure all deliverables are Section 508 Compliant and adhere to other applicable accessibility laws, as applicable (e.g., Trusted Tester).
- Work with Graphic Designers to serve as a Section 508 coordinator and subject matter expert on 508 issues; participate in working groups and/or meetings with stakeholders to discuss requirements and/or present 508 strategies and solutions.
- Provide guidance on technical issues involving Section 508 as it relates to accessible documents and electronic media.
- Partner with project leads to ensure 508 compliance is considered at the beginning of product development.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (e.g., Graphic Design, Communications)
- Section 508 Compliance certified
- DHS Section 508 Certified Trusted Tester preferred
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Thorough understanding of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the ability to apply this knowledge to create strategies and processes for ensuring maximum accessibility of client deliverables in addition to remediating products for compliance
- Familiarity/proficiency with current 508 testing tools (JAWS, CommonLook, Accessible Name and Description Inspector (ANDI)) as well as proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and SharePoint
- Strong facilitation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to lead teams and work independently
- Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship indefinitely
- Ability to obtain a public trust clearance if required
Preferred Qualifications
- DHS Section 508 Certified Trusted Tester preferred
